The Sun
Day 2 | The Age of Man
EYES WIDE CLOSED
Direct exposure to the sun is not only painfully blinding but also serves as a powerful metaphor for our tendency to ignore the harmful impact we have on the environment.
Installation
We created a solar rendering by combining a textured 3D object with a random sound generator, linked to a sensor that reads facial expressions and translates them via software.
When the viewer closed their eyes, the sun enlarged and brightened, with the sound shifting to static noise simulating a solar flare. Upon opening their eyes, the sun shrank, and the sound changed accordingly. The viewer could also "play" and influence the sound by opening and closing their mouth.
